| THE PROCESS |
Step 1 - PRIMING THE DECK
| The deck is prepared and primed with a primer that will make the membrane adhere to the concrete |
Step 2 – CONDITIONING THE DECK
- Before the membrane can be applied, the deck needs to be heated in order to evacuate all water and humidity.
- Using huge hot air blowers that condition
the surface at 130oC, to improve the adherence of membranes compare to the traditional hand-torching method.
Step 3 – HEATING THE MEMBRANE
- A burner constantly and consistently heats the membrane in order to liquefy the bitumen.
- The liquid bitumen fills all imperfections in the deck such as holes and cracks
Step 4 – APPLYING PRESSURE
- Once the membrane is applied, flattening rollers guarantee consistent and complete contact with the surface of the deck.
- This additional step that cannot be taken when using a hand torch enables the membrane to adhere properly everywhere
Step 5 – OBTAINING A CONSISTANT BEAD
- A bitumen bead indicating a watertight seal can be seen after the Macaden has finished processing the membrane.
- The long 200 m rolls also avoid a lot of unnecessary joints.
Step 6 – APPLYING ASPHALT
Once the membrane is set, asphalt is ready to be applied to obtain a long lasting protection.
